Nurse PractitionerPosition Description

Provides inpatient hospital care to neonates above 35 weeks gestation. Provides ambulatory services in the high-risk

clinic. This includes health surveillance as well as assessment and intervention to diagnose and treat illness or disease,

whether acute or chronic, physical, psychosocial, or behavioral. Pediatric Nurse Practitioner works collaboratively with the supervising physician to provide patient assessment and diagnosis, formulate treatment plans, prescribe medication,order laboratory tests, interpret test results, provide patient education, prepare medical records, and refer patients for the services and care indicated. Reports to the Division Chief of NICU services. Refer to the delineation of privileges for a specific scope of practice.

Preferred Qualifications

* Bi-Lingual competence in English and Spanish.
* Two years pediatric care experience.

Required Qualifications

* Graduated from an approved accredited nursing program; current RN license in the State of Texas or have the ability to transfer your license to Texas.
* Certification as a Nurse Practitioner in the appropriate nursing specialty from an approved certification program as recognized by the Texas State Board of Nurse Examiners.
* Recognition by the Texas Board of Nurse Examiners as an Advance Practitioner.

Licensure/Certification

* Pediatric Nurse Practitioner certification is required. Advanced Practice Nurse Licensed in the State of Texas or Compact State Active DEA license or ability to apply for such license prior or upon hire required BLS, PALS, and NRP by the American Heart Association is required.
* A Master's degree or Doctorate from an accredited Nursing Program is preferred.
